The NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) successfully handed over a major aviation infrastructure upgrade to the Kosovo Force (KFOR) at Camp Film City, Kosovo.
NSPA, through its Infrastructure and Engineering Programme, significantly enhanced KFOR’s aviation capabilities and safety through the restoration of the Helicopter Operations (HELIOPS) building and the helicopter landing site.
Key features of the completed project included:
- A new state-of-the-art HELIOPS building, replacing the outdated containerized facility. The new building provides optimal visibility over air and ground operations, meeting NATO and ICAO standards.
- Enhanced office spaces for air traffic control, HELIOPS staff, and meteorological operations.
- A dedicated waiting area for up to 20 passengers, improving safety and operational flow.
- A restored and expanded Airfield Operating Surface (AOS) certified as a Rotary Wing Operating Surface (RWOS), capable of accommodating 4 helicopters.
- Implementation of critical safety measures including anti-FOD (Foreign Object Debris) shoulders, improved drainage, and wildlife control measures.
- Upgraded lighting systems and relocated windsock for improved visibility.
- Integration with Camp Film City’s emergency systems and provision of uninterrupted power supply.
This achievement demonstrates NSPA’s commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure that enhances NATO’s operational capabilities. The new facilities will significantly improve helicopter operations at Camp Film City, ensuring safer and more efficient missions.
NATO’s KFOR was launched in 1999 and it is supporting the security of all people and communities in Kosovo. NSPA has been supporting Kosovo Force (KFOR) operations since 2014. The Agency operates in eight locations across Kosovo and provides helicopter refueling throughout the country upon request. NSPA provides KFOR services to maintain their operations, which includes everything from maintaining a fuel depot and flight line refueling, to managing the contracts to provide food, accommodation, construction, medical services and fire protection services, amongst a wide range of other support.
The successful completion of this infrastructure project at Camp Film City reinforces NSPA’s role as a key enabler in supporting NATO’s missions and operations worldwide.
