{"id":860,"date":"2025-01-03T07:33:30","date_gmt":"2025-01-03T07:33:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedefencenews.com\/?p=860"},"modified":"2024-11-23T18:44:17","modified_gmt":"2024-11-23T18:44:17","slug":"u-s-air-force-bomber-task-force-takes-flight-with-natos-newest-members","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedefencenews.com\/?p=860","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Air Force Bomber Task Force takes flight with NATO&#8217;s newest members"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mdl-grid\">\n<div class=\"mdl-cell mdl-cell--12-col\">\n<p>Finnish and Swedish Air Forces provided fighter escort to the U.S. Air Force Bomber Task Force, on its latest transit across Greenland, Barents and Baltic Seas.<\/p>\n<p>During two separate training missions, Finnish F\/A-18s and Swedish JAS 39 Gripens flew alongside 2 B-52 Stratofortresses as they travelled over Greenland, Finland and Sweden before continuing their transit through the Baltic Sea and back to their temporary home base at RAF Fairford in the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>NATO will defend its interests in the Arctic<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Building a stronger coalition, capable of deterring threats and aggression from adversaries throughout the High North, is an essential component of NATO\u2019s commitment to maintaining freedom of action in the Arctic region. In his keynote speech before the\u00a0<a>Arctic Circle Assembly\u00a0<\/a>on Oct. 19, Chair of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, expressed his concerns about Russia\u2019s continued military build-up in the Arctic and the growing (military) cooperation between China and Russia in the Arctic region.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNATO will defend its interests in the Arctic. We have a responsibility to protect all our Allies, including the seven here in this region. And we want to uphold the international rules-based order, which includes freedom of navigation,\u201d said Admiral Bauer<\/p>\n<p>Admiral Bauer also praised closer Nordic Defence Cooperation. \u201cThe historic accession of Sweden and Finland makes NATO stronger, also in the High North.
