{"id":546,"date":"2024-11-09T18:04:30","date_gmt":"2024-11-09T18:04:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedefencenews.com\/?p=546"},"modified":"2024-11-11T17:52:16","modified_gmt":"2024-11-11T17:52:16","slug":"us-army-navigation-drill-to-incorporate-new-sensors-in-coming-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedefencenews.com\/?p=546","title":{"rendered":"US Army navigation drill to incorporate new sensors in coming years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The US Army\u2019s annual exercise focused on refining its Positioning, Navigation and Timing capabilities, called PNTAX, will widen its aperture in future years, the Army\u2019s new All-Domain Sensing Cross-Functional Team lead told Defense News.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The new All-Domain Sensing CFT is now fully established, following the announcement in March it would become Army Futures Command\u2019s latest office to focus on modernization efforts.<\/p>\n<div id=\"slot-wrapper-f0fnR1Q0EmO27j3\" class=\"AdWrapper-sc-1cwvedt-0 dbihyj dfp-ad dfp-ad--rectangle \" data-state=\"viewable\" data-last-reload-count=\"0\" data-last-view-time=\"1731175363116\" data-view-count=\"1\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot\">\n<div class=\"adunitContainer\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-f0fnR1Q0EmO27j3\" class=\"adBox\" data-google-query-id=\"CNfLltXqz4kDFZNNHgIddCQ29g\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_114235265\/DefenseNews\/ausa\/in-article_0__container__\">The team, created to develop capabilities that will allow the service to understand battlespace goings-on, will initially work toward creating an architecture of sensors as well as processing and disseminating the enormous amount of data collected from those sensors.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The team grew out of the former Assured Positioning, Navigation and Timing\/Space CFT and took its current staff and director, Michael Monteleone, and expanded the mission to focus on broad deep-sensing capabilities.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">\u201cI think you\u2019re going to see an evolution of PNTAX probably both in name and also in scope,\u201d Monteleone told Defense News ahead of the U.S. Army\u2019s annual conference. PNTAX stands for PNT Assessment Exercise.<\/p>\n<div id=\"slot-wrapper-f0fnQgafEmO27Cs\" class=\"AdWrapper-sc-1cwvedt-0 dbihyj dfp-ad dfp-ad--rectangle \" data-state=\"rendered\" data-last-reload-count=\"0\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot\">\n<div class=\"adunitContainer\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-f0fnQgafEmO27Cs\" class=\"adBox\" data-google-query-id=\"CNjLltXqz4kDFZNNHgIddCQ29g\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_114235265\/DefenseNews\/ausa\/in-article_1__container__\">While he said he could not yet divulge details on exactly how the exercise would be evolving, Monteleone said: \u201cIt\u2019ll be something different. As we go more and more towards the resilient architectures from space to ground, both in transport and in data, then also as we start augmenting our formations with the human-machine integrated side of it, as we bring more robots, more [unmanned aircraft systems] capability into that architecture, we have to evaluate that in that denied environment.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">PNTAX will also likely be federated into other experiments and activities across the Army as well, Monteleone noted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">The Army just wrapped up its sixth PNTAX at the end of last month. The experiment \u201ccontinues to deliver more and more value,\u201d Monteleone said, because it offers a realistic threat environment that is \u201cunique.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 kEzXdV body-paragraph body-paragraph\">There were were over 600 participants in the event, to include joint partners, combatant commands and all of the Five Eyes partners Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United Kingdom, Monteleone said.
