{"id":350,"date":"2024-11-08T18:58:50","date_gmt":"2024-11-08T18:58:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedefencenews.com\/?p=350"},"modified":"2024-11-08T18:58:50","modified_gmt":"2024-11-08T18:58:50","slug":"pentagon-funds-development-of-brain-trauma-headgear-scanner-for-combat-zones","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedefencenews.com\/?p=350","title":{"rendered":"Pentagon Funds Development of Brain Trauma Headgear Scanner for Combat Zones"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The US Department of Defense has awarded Ohio-based Sense Neuro Diagnostics a $2-million contract to support the clinical trial of a traumatic brain injury detection capability for front line care.<\/p>\n<p>Called \u201cNeuroHawk,\u201d the headgear scans specific regions of the brain for hemorrhaging, enabling quick diagnosis of the condition that has affected more than 420,000 warfighters in the past 20 years.<\/p>\n<p>NeuroHawk offers non-invasive scans and monitoring in seconds, providing rapid and objective data to improve triage treatment decisions, decrease risks of secondary injury, and secure positive results.<\/p>\n<p>Clinical trials are set to begin in June 2025, with the initial phase focusing on the system\u2019s primary functions and usage in high-pressure scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>The company noted that the award follows a $2.43-million grant from the Pentagon\u2019s Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs in 2021, which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/senseneuro.com\/sense-announces-2-43m-military-contract-to-advance-tech-to-diagnose-and-monitor-traumatic-brain-injury-tbi-in-a-field-environment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ordered<\/a>\u00a0development of the NeuroHawk.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored to receive this contract \u2026 as it recognizes the potential of our technology to address a significant unmet need for both military personnel and civilian patients,\u201d Sense Neuro Diagnostics CEO\u00a0<b>Geoff Klass<\/b>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/posts\/sense-diagnostics_sense-neuro-diagnostics-awarded-2-million-activity-7259629141543518208-l9Uz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">stated<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NeuroHawk is designed for use in field conditions, allowing for rapid detection and monitoring of brain injuries.
