That boat will be the first full-time carrier of the Zircon hypersonic cruise missile.<\/p>\n<div id=\"slot-wrapper-f0fnR1Q0EmO27j3\" class=\"AdWrapper-sc-1cwvedt-0 kNmwWS dfp-ad dfp-ad--rectangle \" data-state=\"viewed\" data-last-reload-count=\"0\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot\">\n<div class=\"adunitContainer\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-f0fnR1Q0EmO27j3\" class=\"adBox\" data-google-query-id=\"CLbbpN7XwIwDFXArBgAdo7IKEA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_114235265\/DefenseNews\/europe\/in-article_0__container__\">Following the withdrawal of Soviet submarines, military officials originally wanted to field 30 Yasen-class submarines and 14 strategic Borei-class boats.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Putin\u2019s announcement indicates a shift in objectives, with 10 copies to be built in each class.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Submarine manufacturing plant Sevmash has emerged as something of a bottleneck in the overall production scheme. The plant hasn\u2019t been making enough boats, and only a year ago modernized its production\u00a0facilities.<\/p>\n<div id=\"slot-wrapper-f0fnQgafEmO27Cs\" class=\"AdWrapper-sc-1cwvedt-0 kNmwWS dfp-ad dfp-ad--rectangle \" data-state=\"viewed\" data-last-reload-count=\"0\">\n<div class=\"ad-slot\">\n<div class=\"adunitContainer\">\n<div id=\"ad-slot-f0fnQgafEmO27Cs\" class=\"adBox\" data-google-query-id=\"CLfbpN7XwIwDFXArBgAdo7IKEA\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_114235265\/DefenseNews\/europe\/in-article_1__container__\">Given Russian plans to start building new fifth-generation submarines of the Husky class by 2027, the Yasen-M line may cease to exist, according to Pavel Luzin, a Russian defense expert with the Washington-based Center for European Policy Analysis.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">Moscow\u2019s overall naval weapons mix has leaders hesitant to rush into additional Yasen production, as support elements like reconnaissance satellites and ships, as well as accompanying surveillance aircraft, are lacking, according to Dmitry Smirnov, a Russian military expert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph-sc-1tqpf5s-0 bFwqVI body-paragraph body-paragraph\">In addition, the defense budget shifted to producing weapons needed in the war against Ukraine.
